Terms of service
This is a draft. It will be reviewed by a professional before Curbo takes paying customers.
Version draft-2026-10-29. Last updated 29 October 2026.
These terms are the agreement between you, a driving instructor using Curbo for your business, and Curbo. Please read them before you apply. By ticking the box on the application form, you agree to them.
1. Who we are
Curbo is a trading name of Mohammad Subhan Khan, a sole trader based in Crawley, United Kingdom. You can contact us at hello@curbo.co.uk.
2. The service
Curbo gives you an AI assistant on WhatsApp. Your learners book, move and cancel lessons by chatting with it, and you run your diary, payments and records by chatting with it too. Every instructor's assistant shares one Curbo WhatsApp number; each conversation is kept to the instructor and learner it belongs to.
The assistant is a tool to help you, and you stay responsible for your business, your lessons and what is said to your learners. Anything that changes or cancels a lesson, changes your settings or sends a message to a learner on your behalf is shown to you first, and only happens when you tap to confirm it. The assistant uses artificial intelligence and can make mistakes, so please check what it shows you before you confirm.
3. Joining
Curbo is for self-employed driving instructors in the United Kingdom. You apply on our application form, and we review every application personally. We may decline an application, and we do not have to give a reason. The information you give us must be accurate, and the mobile number you apply with is the one your assistant will work with.
4. Free trial, price and payment
- Free trial. Your subscription starts with a 14-day free trial. We take your card details when you start it, and nothing is charged during the trial.
- Monthly payment. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your card is charged on day 15 and then each month, in advance, at the price shown when you started. Payments are taken by our payment provider, Stripe; we never see your full card details.
- Price changes. We will tell you by email at least 30 days before a new price applies to you, and you can cancel before it does.
- VAT. Curbo is not currently registered for VAT, so no VAT is added.
- If a payment fails. Stripe tries again over the following days, and we will ask you to update your card. Your assistant keeps working while it tries. If the payment still cannot be taken, your assistant is paused until it is, and switches back on by itself when you pay.
5. Cancelling
You can cancel at any time from your billing page; send "billing" to your assistant for a link to it. Your assistant keeps working until the end of the month you have paid for, and we do not refund part months. If you cancel during the free trial, you are not charged at all.
We may pause or end your subscription if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if your use puts the shared WhatsApp number at risk for other instructors (see section 7). Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you first and give you a chance to put things right.
6. After your subscription ends
When your subscription ends, or a payment cannot be taken, your assistant is paused and your learners are told it is temporarily unavailable. We keep your account and records for 90 days, so that if you come back within that time, everything is as you left it.
Seven days before those 90 days are up, we send you, by email and WhatsApp, your income and tax reports and your receipts, so that you have the records you need to keep for HMRC. After the 90 days, we delete your account and your learners' data. We keep only a record with no personal details in it (such as the dates and our payment provider's reference) for our own accounts.
7. Using Curbo properly
Because every instructor shares one WhatsApp number, misuse by one instructor can harm everyone. You agree:
- to invite only people who have agreed to hear from your assistant, and never to use Curbo to send messages people have not asked for;
- to use Curbo only for arranging and running your driving lessons;
- to follow WhatsApp's Business Messaging Policy and the law, including data protection law;
- to keep your prices, hours and details accurate, and to be responsible for any message you ask your assistant to send; and
- not to try to get around Curbo's security, use it to reach other instructors' data, or overload it.
8. Lesson payments and tax
Curbo never handles your lesson money. Your learners pay you directly, by Monzo or bank transfer, using the payment details you give your assistant, and Curbo never asks learners for their bank details. Receipts are made from what you record as paid. Curbo's tax figures and reports are estimates to help you plan, not tax advice; you remain responsible for your own tax return.
9. Your learners' data
When your learners use your assistant, you decide how their information is used: you are the data controller, and Curbo handles it on your behalf as your data processor. These terms are our data processing agreement with you. In particular, we:
- use your learners' information only to provide Curbo to you and as you instruct, and never sell it or use it for advertising;
- make sure anyone who works on Curbo keeps it confidential;
- keep it secure, including encrypting pickup addresses and your payment details, and limiting who can reach it;
- use other providers only to run the service: Meta (WhatsApp, which carries the messages), Anthropic (the AI that understands messages and writes replies), DigitalOcean (where Curbo and its data are hosted, in London) and Resend (which sends Curbo's emails). We will tell you before adding or replacing one, so you can object;
- help you respond to learners who ask about or want to delete their data; a learner can also send "delete my data" to the assistant at any time;
- tell you without undue delay if we become aware of a breach affecting your learners' data;
- where a provider processes data outside the United Kingdom, rely on the safeguards UK data protection law requires; and
- delete your learners' data when your subscription ends, as described in section 6, after sending you your records.
Our privacy notice explains how we handle your own details, as our customer.
10. Availability
We work to keep Curbo running at all times, but we cannot promise it will never be interrupted. It depends on services we do not control, such as WhatsApp, and we may need to pause it briefly for maintenance.
11. Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. Otherwise, we are not liable for loss of profit, business or income, or for any indirect loss, and our total liability to you for anything arising from these terms is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change matters to you, we will email you at least 30 days before it applies, and you can cancel before then if you do not agree. The version and date at the top of this page show which terms are current.
13. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales deal with any dispute.
